RULES
G E N E R A L
As of this moment, this site is CANON ONLY. Only characters from the DC Universe are allowed, meaning no original characters, or characters from some other publisher (including DC imprints such as Vertigo).
This site has a rating of PG-13. Drinking, drugs, gore, cussing, and other nasties of life are allowed, but in moderation. If you have a sex scene, fade it to black and let our imaginations do the rest. If you really want to get into the details, do it through some other method off of Proboards.
Respect is a must. No slurs of any kind or cussing someone out. We’re all human beings here, and deserve to be treated as such. Got a problem with someone else? Talk it out like the mature individuals I know we all are. If it can’t get resolved, take it to the staff. We’re pretty diplomatic.
No plagiarism. It’s illegal. If you didn’t make/write it, don’t say you did.
Do not ask to be a part of staff. If a spot is open and we think you are a suitable candidate, a member of staff will contact you.
The staff can’t be everywhere at once. If you notice someone breaking the rules and the staff has not, then please contact a member of staff.
It is asked that you log in as often as possible, just to reassure the staff and other members that you haven’t forgotten or lost interest in the site. You do not have to post every day. We understand that life doesn’t always allow time to post, but it should allow enough time for you to log in at least every other day or so. If something comes up that prevents you from even doing this, then please don’t let us know just through the c-box (the staff is only human, and can sometimes forget the reasoning for your absence). Please post something in the Absence board. When things get slow around here, a certain amount of time will be granted before an Activity Check is initiated. This will especially be the case if there are no absence threads, and hence no known reasoning behind the lack of activity.
All of these rules apply to the entire site, which includes the c-box. But let me list off the rules that specifically apply to the c-box: No advertising, spamming, or pestering people. Please do not talk about other sites, as that is a form of advertising. Also be careful in the discussion of sensitive/controversial topics such as politics, religion, etc. Also, another big rule: if you don't have anything nice to say, chances are you shouldn't say anything.
P O S T I N G
We ask that all in-character posts be at least two decent paragraphs. We understand that life is tough, and muse isn’t always the most cooperative thing, but it is preferred if you post at least once or twice a week.
We currently do not have a post requirement for obtaining new characters. That being said, staff reserve the right to implement one at any given time. For now, we simply ask that you keep all your characters' activity relatively balanced.
Spell check is there for a reason. Use it. We understand that not everyone is the best with grammar and spelling, but at least have enough consideration for who you’re threading with, and make sure your writing is clear. No one wants to take an extra five minutes to figure out a post.
Do not post until your application is accepted. Please, have patience and wait. The staff have lives like everyone else, but we will get to your app eventually.
All in-character posts must be third person and past tense. This helps the flow and allows everyone to be on the same page metaphorically. The only time I and any other first person narration should be used is in dialogue and thoughts.
Make your posts clear. Your narration should be easy to understand and it should be obvious what is dialogue, thoughts, and narration. Use quotation marks, coloring, or whatever you want to make your dialogue stand out. It is also preferred if thoughts are made italic, or something else that marks them as something that is not narration or dialogue.
C H A R A C T E R S
The site currently has no limit on the amount of characters one can play. We do, however, request that you only take on as many as you can handle and that one person does not end up playing half the characters on the site--especially once more members begin to join. You may only have one pending application at a time. Staff reserve the right to implement a character limit at any time.
Think reasonably when selecting the characters you want to play. Try to stick with characters that don’t interact with each other quite as much. That way you can get the full roleplaying experience. Also don’t nab all of the power players. Leave some important positions for others.
We here at These Lonely Nights understand that life isn’t all gumdrops and roses. Life is pretty darn hard. But there’s good in every life. So, due to that, try to keep the drama at a logical level. We don’t want everyone cutting, getting pregnant, being depressed, etc.
You must use images of your chosen face claim. Exception can be made for the large hover image, which may be an image of the character from the comics, so long as it is not a detailed or out-of-costume image. It just starts to look sloppy when everyone is using different types of images.
If you break any rules you will be warned. If you continue to break them, you will be temporarily banned. And if you don’t learn your lesson, you will be banned permanently.
Any more questions? Feel free to ask the staff.
Almost all of these rules are up for change and there is a possibility new rules will be added later on. Members will be alerted when the rules are updated.
